Chief Fowler joined the Fire Department in July of 1978 as a volunteer and became a career firefighter in July 1979. From there he worked his way up through the ranks of Inspector to the Chief in 1990. There have been many changes and additional equipment purchased under the command of Chief Fowler that has helped the Waynesville Fire Department become up to date with modern technology and be one of the leading agencies in Haywood County. Chief Fowler was practically raised in this department while his father was a volunteer. For many years Chief Fowler has been an instructor in the Community College System, playing an important role in educating a large portion of the Haywood County firefighters in the firefighter certification program.
